Here are suggestions about how to remove odors from a microwave
oven.
Step 1. Place a thick
slice of lemon on a paper towel and microwave it on high for 1
to 1 1/2 minutes. Let it stand overnight or until the liquid has
cooled.
Step 2. Pour 1/2 c. bottled lemon juice into
a microwave-safe bowl or a 2-c glass measuring cup (if you don't
have a fresh lemon) and follow the same directions. You can also
dilute the lemon juice with water and add several whole cloves.
Step 3. Wipe the microwave's insides with a
paper towel soaked in a water-and-lemon-juice solution. Clean
the top, bottom, sides, window, door, door seals and seams. Wipe
dry.
Tip:Keep microwave ovens clean by wiping them
out after each use with warm sudsy water (use mild detergent),
then rinsing and drying. Never use commercial oven cleaners in
a microwave oven.
Usually you can eliminate odors by giving the oven a good cleaning.
Step 1. Unplug the oven and
unfasten the cabinet body, using a screwdriver. The body should
be attached along the back as well as along the sides or bottom.
Step 2. Slide the cabinet body back slightly
to clear any internal brackets, then lift it off.
Step 3. Clean the oven, using a vacuum with
plastic crevice attachment. Vacuum the fan and other internal
parts, then vacuum the vents underneath the oven, on the back
and inside the chamber.
Step 4. Reassemble the oven and plug it in.
Step 5. Fill a small bowl with a 50-50 mixture
of water and white vinegar, then set it in the oven and turn the
oven on high for 5 minutes. When the mixture boils, it will remove
stubborn smells inside the vents and loosen food particles on
the oven walls.
Step 6. Wipe down the oven walls with a clean
sponge.
Overall Tips:Occasionally, electrical parts
will burn and produce a foul smell. If so, unplug your oven and
call a professional.
Overall Warnings:Never put your hands or any
metal object inside the cabinet. You could get shocked.
Microwaves make short work of cooking; now you can make short
work of cleaning them. |
